Do you have complimentary Cadillac maintenance on your vehicle?

We want to take a moment and inform our Cadillac customers of clarifications regarding your Cadillac Premium Care Maintenance coverage.  As you know Cadillac pays for all scheduled maintenance during the first 4 years or 50,000 miles of ownership, that has not changed.  However Cadillac has clarified some rules in the criteria they use for determining if your vehicle is due for service.
In the past if you brought us your Cadillac and you were even somewhat close to the maintenance criteria Cadillac specifies we would go ahead and perform your service at no charge to you.  We have now been informed that we are to perform no charge scheduled maintenance for you only if the following criteria are met, if these criteria are not met Cadillac will require you to be responsible for payment of the non scheduled maintenance.

  • Cadillac will pay for an oil change every 7,500 miles, one year, or when the oil life indicator turns on by itself, whichever occurs first.  There is no set oil life percentage that you must watch for, just wait for the Change Oil Soon light to come on, or if you have gone 7,500 miles or 1 year since your last oil change.
  • Cadillac will pay for a tire rotation every 7,500 miles.
  • Cadillac will pay to replace your engine air cleaner at 4 years or 45,000 miles, whichever comes first.
  • If your vehicle is equipped with a Cabin Air Filter Cadillac will pay to have this replaced every 22,500 miles

These are minor changes, but at Thompson Buick GMC Cadillac we wanted you to be informed that maintenance which does not fall under these guidelines will not be paid for by Cadillac.  If you would like a copy of the Cadillac Simplified Maintenance Schedule please ask your service advisor on your next visit, we’ll be happy to provide this.

There will be an update for Buick and GMC vehicles covered by complimentary maintenance plans by the end of this week.
Thank you,

Tips to avoid a leaky sunroof.

Earlier this week a cusotmer came into our Service Department with a leaking sunroof. Her headliner was wet and water was dripping from the corners, not a good thing.

After looking at it our Shop Foreman, determined that the drain tubes were clogged. We discussed this and he told me that what happens is people who rarely open their sunroof or wash their cars have dirt build up around the seals, then it gets washed down into the the drain tube and the water can’t drain fast enough to keep up with a heavy rain and the sunroof appears to be leaking. Unfortunately General Motors will not cover this under warranty, so we want to make sure this does not happen to you.

How to avoid this? According to our technicians who work on these sunroofs a great way to avoid a clogged drain tube is to open your sunroof on a regular basis and wash your car at least once a month so the soapy water will drain down and keep it clear. Even more important is where you park the vehicle. If you regularly park under trees or near shrubs you greatly increase the chances of clogged drain tubes. Garage kept vehicles have a much lower chance of a clogged drain tube.

If you have questions about this or any other service related items please feel free to ask your service advisor, or you can email me at stephenc@thompsoncars.com.

And don’t forget, the all new 2014 GMC Sierra is here!
